Day 300

A New Tomb in the Rock

Matthew 27:57–66; John 19:38–42

That evening, Joseph from Arimathea took Jesus’ body from the cross. Together with Nicodemus, he wrapped the body in spices and clean linen. They laid it in a new tomb Joseph had cut in the rock. A heavy rock was rolled across the tomb’s door. They left the garden.

The leading priests and Pharisees went to Pilate. “That liar, Jesus, said he’d come back from death,” they said. “Send soldiers to guard the tomb for three days. Then his disciples can’t steal the body.” So they sealed the tomb shut and set guards over it.

Questions: Who was the man who helped Joseph bury Jesus? Why did the priests put guards at Jesus’ tomb?
