Day 279

“What a Waste!”

Matthew 26:6–13

Jesus stayed in Bethany. A woman came with a little jar of expensive perfume. She poured it on Jesus’ head as he sat at the table. The disciples were angry. “What a waste!” they said. “We could have sold it and given the money to the poor.”

“Don’t trouble her,” Jesus said. “She’s done a good thing. You always have poor people with you. I won’t always be here. She’s prepared my body for burial. Listen: The gospel will be preached all over the world. Then, what this woman has done for me will be remembered.”

Questions: The woman poured the perfume on Jesus. What did the disciples want to do with it? When is this story remembered?
