Day 268
Jesus Is the Resurrection
Part Two
John 11:25–35
I am the resurrection and the life,” said Jesus to Martha. “Those who believe in me may die, but they’ll live again. Do you believe this, Martha?”
“Yes, Lord,” Martha replied. “I believe you’re Christ, God’s Son, who has come into the world.” Then she hurried home.
“Mary,” whispered Martha, “the Teacher is here. He wants to see you.” The Jews saw Mary leave and followed her. They thought she was going to Lazarus’s tomb to weep. But they found her kneeling at Jesus’ feet.
“Lord, you should have been here,” Mary wept. “Then Lazarus wouldn’t have died.” Jesus saw her weeping. He looked up and saw all her Jewish friends weeping. This troubled him.
“Where did you bury him?”
“Come and see, Lord.”
Jesus began to weep. “See how much he loved Lazarus?” some said.
But others said, “He made the blind man see. Couldn’t he have kept this man from dying?” These words made Jesus sad.
Questions: Jesus said he was the resurrection and the life. What did Martha think that meant? What did the people say that made Jesus sad?
