Day 56

The Tabernacle of God

Exodus 35:1–40:38

On the mountain, God told Moses his plan for Israel. He showed Moses the way to build a special kind of tent. In it the people would meet with God. This tent was called the tabernacle. They also called it the tent of meeting.

Moses called for an offering to the Lord. Everyone brought gold and cloth, fine leather, oil and spices, beautiful wood, and precious stones. All this was used in building the tabernacle. Many people were skilled carpenters and handy with their hands. They came to help build the tent of meeting.

This was an expensive, large, and beautiful tent. It was made of the best materials exactly like the Lord planned it. Its walls were boards covered with gold. Over these the tent was hung. It was blue, scarlet, and purple linen cloth. This was covered with skins and hides

Outside the tabernacle was a brass altar for offerings. There were beautiful pieces of special furniture inside. The entire tabernacle could be packed and carried on Israel’s travels.

Finally, Moses and the people finished the tabernacle. The cloud that lead them out of Egypt covered the tent. God’s glory filled the tabernacle.

Question: What was the tabernacle used for? What is another name for the tabernacle?
