The Lord Rescues Peter

Acts 12:1–11

King Herod laid his violent hands on some of the believers. He had James, John’s brother, killed. Then Peter was arrested. The church urgently prayed to God.

Peter slept chained to two soldiers. An angel entered the prison. “Get up, quickly. Put on your sandals.” Peter did so. “Follow me.” The apostle thought he was seeing a vision. They passed through the guards. By itself, the prison gate swung open. They walked along a city lane. The angel suddenly disappeared.

“The Lord has rescued me,” realized Peter. “The people will not see me die.”
