Day 315
Arrested in the Temple Again
Acts 5:14–26
Great numbers of men and women believed. The sick were even carried out into the streets of Jerusalem. They simply wanted Peter’s shadow to fall on them as he passed by. People brought the sick in from the towns around. They all were cured.
Then the high priest took action. He and the other priests and teachers were jealous. So they arrested the apostles and put them into prison. But during the night, an angel opened the prison doors. “Go,” said the angel. “Stand in the temple and tell the people about this life.” So at dawn, the apostles were in the temple again. There they went on with their teaching.
That day, the priests called for the prisoners to be brought. But the police didn’t find the apostles in the prison. “We found the prison locked,” they reported. “The guards were standing at the doors. But no one was inside.” Everyone was puzzled.
Then another report came: “The men you put in prison are teaching in the temple!” The temple police quietly brought the apostles to the high priest. They were afraid of being stoned by the people.
Questions: Why did the priests arrest the apostles? What did the apostles do when they were released from prison?
