Day 312
Arrested in the Temple
Acts 3:9–4:4
People of Israel,” Peter spoke in the temple, “why are you amazed and wondering about this man? He wasn’t healed because we are powerful or holy. This is the way your ancestor’s God has glorified his Son, Jesus. Pilate wanted to free Jesus, but you wanted the murderer Barabbas instead. And so you killed the source of life. But God brought him back from death. We have seen him. Faith in the name of Jesus Christ has made this man strong.
“I know that you didn’t know what you were doing. You ignorantly killed Jesus. The prophets all said this would happen to Christ. But now, turn to God so your sins will be wiped out. Then refreshing times will come because of the Lord. In time, God will send Jesus, your Christ, back again.”
Peter and John were speaking to the people. The priests and the temple captain came to them. These men were annoyed that the disciples were teaching in the temple, especially that they said, “In Jesus, there is return from death.” So they arrested Peter and John. They were held until the next day. But 5,000 people believed in Jesus that day.
Questions: What made the disabled man strong? What did Peter and John say that annoyed the priests?
